Meet Melissa
Hello! I’m Melissa Riggins, and I am so glad you’re here! Growing up in a family that was characterized by fighting between parents and an emotionally unavailable parent with an alcohol problem, I know the type of hurts that can be caused through relationships. Knowing the impact that my chaotic environment had on myself and my brother, I have become deeply passionate about helping others break unhealthy relationship cycles, heal past wounds, and create relationships and environments in which they feel safe.
I have been in the mental health and substance use field for over 10 years, specializing in couples therapy. As a therapist, I have assisted individual clients through processing traumas, alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression, navigating periods of crisis and enhancing meaning and connection in their lives. While working with couples, I have helped them create a deeper connection, improve trust and communication, and navigate relational imbalances and significant transitions.
I work with both individuals and couples presenting for a variety of reasons, ranging from mood disorders, trauma and self-esteem to relational and communication issues to infidelity. I am passionate about helping each of my clients meet their full potential, enhance the quality of their relationships, and overall assist in making their life dreams come true.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my husband, son, and our dog. We love to go hiking, explore the beauty of nature, and we love to travel and experience different cultures.
My vision
My vision is to provide exceptional virtual mental health therapy services to teens, adults and couples located within Colorado and Nevada. My goal is provide you with meaningful connection to support your personal vision.
Therapy Styles
I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a psychological intervention that teaches individuals how to cope with unhelpful or distorted thoughts, feelings and actions; and Gottman Couples Therapy, which is a couples therapy intervention focused on helping partners enhance their relationship quality and help make life dreams come true.
As a person-centered therapist, I genuinely care about each of my clients and their unique stories and experiences. I strive to provide a safe and welcoming space for all clients to explore their presenting concerns and create pathways for meaningful connections.
